Like finding an old friend

It's been far too long since I was an active member of the blogging community. I have no regrets, however. I have adopted the view that "life has a way of happening, so who am I to interrupt", and by the latest string of events, writing for me is once again possible.

As of late I've become aware (blindingly so) that I know many good people, who let negativity overshadow the beautiful people they are. I remember all too well, that just a few years ago, I was one of them. Pinpointing the moment my view and approach to life changed isn't something I can do, but I do know the experience that gave birth to my new approach to life: the last of three court trials. That's another entry.

"Baggage", we hear people say this about those they know, even themselves, referring to what they see as the negative stuff they have amassed over time. In truth every moment, and every string of events in our lives tag along for the ride, so why is it just the negative experiences are pinpointed? Everything that occurs in our lives becomes part of our collection of experiences. The good, the bad, the sad, the nearly forgettable...if only people would begin to see their 'baggage' as a wealth of information and experience from which to draw upon throughout life, then maybe they could break free from the limitations of dragging negative moments through all future experiences and avoid self-sabotage.

There will always be those moments when doubt, anger, sadness, and self-defeat enter the picture. Choosing to move past them and allow the positive aspects of a situation to be the focus is really the only way to stop repeating the experiences that cause pain, grief and unhappiness.

Confidence comes from positive experience and the only way to be confident is to release the death grip on negative experiences; see them for what they are part of your collection of experiences.
